About Me

My name is Asia (she/her), and I’m a writer & performer based out of Kansas City. I have been writing poetry since high school, where I started a poetry club (we had two meetings in total.) Since then, I have become an active member and leader of the community at Poetic Underground and Fountain City Poetry Slam. I write about experiencing the world through a neuro-diverse lens including social and political issues, grief and loss, activism and resistance, and finding myself in an age of isolation and individualism. I have many previous works about love and heartbreak, and though some of those themes have continued on as I have grown, my focus has shifted towards bringing attention to causes and issues I care about. I use performance and slam poetry to bring attention to these things by incorporating technical writing skills and body language to enhance the words of the poems.

My work has been published in multiple online zines, found on the Publications page of this website, as well as videos of my poems at competitions posted on Write About Now and Button Poetry. My self-published chapbook is titled Sadness Drives my Brainship and All my Feelings are Aliens.

As for my competitive accolades, I have been a competing member of the Fountain City Poets Slam Team every year since 2018, where we competed in the National Poetry Slam in Chicago. Since then, I was a semi-finalist at the Texas Grand Slam, competed at the 2020 Women of the World Poetry Slam, Rustbelt Poetry Slam 2019, placed second with my team at the 2023 Bigfoot Regional Poetry Slam, and competed again with our team at Bigfoot in 2024. Locally, I am a multi-time winner of the Kansas City Poetry Slam, including being the 2022 Kansas City Grand Slam co-champion and tying for second place at the 2024 Grand Slam.
